Yale Makes Director 'Dr. Spielberg'

NEW HAVEN, Conn. _ Steven Spielberg received an honorary degree
from Yale University for a career that has included films such as
"Jaws'' and "Schindler's List.''

The Yale band broke into the theme music from the "Indiana
Jones'' movies to herald the honorary doctorate for Spielberg on
Monday.

"Your movies entertain, engage and enlighten,'' said university
President Richard Levin. "For your artistry and imagination, we
honor you with this degree of doctor of humane letters.''

The director was honored for his many films as well as his work
to preserve memories of the Holocaust with "Schindler's List'' and
the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation.

The university also gave an honorary degree to Robert L. Carter,
a federal judge and civil rights leader.
